I wondered, too, if this was his farewell to Iron Man. I'm not sure how to feel about that. I have enjoyed them all, each one getting better than the last, IMO. I went to see this with a bunch of writer-friends here in Virginia Beach (on retreat) and we all loved it, but can't agree on what it meant in the end.
And maybe that's the point. He now has the option of stepping down, or continuing--because it really can go either way.
I like that idea--that he left it open-ended, to see what happens. I saw some interviews with him and he certainly sounds more ambiguous than the movie did. I think I just had to make my peace with the possibility of it being the last one to hope it wasn't, but reasonably...
I have to imagine that they needed to see how 3 did. And also, with the glut of other sequels coming out probably were a bit unsure of reception of any one of them.
I would like to start a campaign for a Bruce&Tony show!
