You and I need to get together and kick some royal fucking ass at something. I am just like you - I want to do something I am passionate about but cannot seem to find my place in the world. I don't want to be another office drone. I want creative freedom and the opportunity to do something worthwhile
( ... )
I think its sometimes easier to do a 9-5 job where you can forget about it when you come home. When you work for yourself and sell your own products I find personally I start to lack enthusiasm for it after a while. I get bored doing custom work (not always but quite a lot) and sometimes find im not enjoying it as much as if I make something then sell it. Im also terribly unorganised working for myself, because I have no one to kick me up the arse to tell me otherwise. But i would never go back to a normal job. I love the freedom of working for yourself.
But if your good at it (which you clearly are with your wigs) and you enjoy it, you should go for it. I think in any job you need to find it rewarding, so if painting or clothes making gives you that satisfation, then you should try it.
You can always get another 'standard' job if it doesnt work out :)
i've got just the place for youbeckaramungaSeptember 15 2005, 06:11:32 UTC
in regards to the following:
i spose i can't decide and don't want to risk turning the things i enjoy into a job. i also spose it's a big part of why i want to move to an island where my only real route of income would be to get seriously back into painting, even if it is shitty watercolours for tourists. the decision's made for me then.
this is what i have to say: i live on an island called Ketchikan, in alaska. being an island, it is surrounded by water, so cruise ships bring hoards of them in and out for the summer months. you'd do well here!! come on ova'! all artsy-fartsy types do VERY well here!! we are a small, very artist-oriented community. aside from the fact that my best friend and i are here, you'd have a ball!

that's so funny, my long term plan is to move to an island!
thing is, i'm after a hot climate, and i don't think alaska applies? lol even the UK is too cold for me, i hate that we only get a few weeks of suimmer. i swear i'm the only overweight redhead in the world who loves the sun and heat :P
so my plan is to move to tortola in the carribbean. it sounds fairly similar, a small island with a good level of cruise ships visiting. it also has a good artists community, lots of galleries and exhibitions etc... your place sounds perfect but i can't handle the cold!!
