if a shirt has both black and brown, is it ok to wear either black or brown pants/shoes/accessories? i can never decide! does the amount of black/brown in the shirt make the difference? for instance, if a shirt is mostly black but has some sort of brown pattern, are brown pants not allowed ( Read more... )

Either would be fine, I think. A lot of those old rules have fallen by the wayside, fashion is a lot more forgiving these days.

it still just looks weird, though, doesn't it? what not to wear needs to do a whole special on accessorizing, layering, and mixing colors/patterns.

like, i've got a pair of black pants with a close thin white pinstripe pattern that i know counts as a solid and can be mixed with patterns, but anytime i wear them with a black or mostly black shirt, the pinstripes make the pants look more gray than black, and it just looks weird to me.

i'm just not good at fashion.

Like Jen said, it seems that it's OK these days to mix black and brown but for me personally, I think it looks awful.

Dan does it frequently and it drives me crazy. But then again, I'm pretty crazy so you probably shouldn't listen to me anyways. :P
