LJ use

Yesterday I tried to search for some info I posted a couple of year ago.  The search function was rubbish.  Its a bit disapointing really.  Is that the only option or am I missing something?  Should I go back and tag the post properly

You should probably back LJ stuff up; it's unlikely but not impossible that it will just go down and never come back up one day, like other journalling and blogging services have done.

Nothing you put in LJ is really private - if you have information which is seriously private (i.e. you don't want _anyone_ knowing, rather than just not wanting anyone who knows you and might therefore care about it knowing) you shouldn't put it on LJ.

Google can often search public LJ entries if you haven't told it not to, but for protected ones only tags or playing guess the date has been able to help me.
