The latest conversation streams of this website are dated many months ago. I proffer my sincere apologies - having come so very late to the party. Perhaps my host has already quit the din of her literary fiesta? What must suffice, then, is this message in an iNet bottle - launched from the Straits of Carquinez in northern California to some distant quarter of the Commonwealth (as one may adjudge from the Anglican orthography of your .pdf). I pray it washes ashore and reaches you. [FYI: Mr. Forester lived in Berkeley, a few miles to the south.] To you: my heartiest approbation and sincere praise for the craftsmanship of your writing! You have captured thoroughly the piquant melancholy of the souls (at times, tortured) and subtle wit within Forester's characters while adding a singularly unique perspective of camaraderie and emotion - imbued with a broader palate than was available from the original author. British reserve be damned; no one serves with, lives with, and fights beside his fellows without compassion! I love Wm. Bush center

Late to the party? Goodness no....there is something uniquely priceless about feedback on work thought long forgotten! I can't thank you enough for taking the time to convey such kind words. I'm especially delighted to hear that you found my attempts to explore the depths of these characters to be somewhat reasonable. In your words "no one serves with, lives with, and fights beside his fellows without compassion", you summed up my purpose quite nicely! Mr. Forester gave us a great deal, but in my opinion left a great deal unsaid. I simply tried to put some of it (my interpretation, at least) into words, while attempting to keep them still somewhat in character. Knowing that my efforts struck a chord with you truly made my day.
Oh, and don't let my Anglican orthography fool you: it just seemed appropriate, given the setting. Your iNet bottle didn't travel nearly that far!
