Oh, hello. LJ-versary. Also, Fringe.

Yesterday was apparently the ten year anniversary of my LiveJournal, so I thought I'd post something. I just finished mainlining all 5 seasons of Fringe, so I guess I will put some blah-blah about Fringe under the cut.

Holy crap! 10 years! It's almost 10 years for me too.

Happy LJ-versary!

Waitaminute. I thought you like X-Files!

Meh. I loved it at first, then much less so very fast. I never actually made it to Skinner times, so maybe I'd have liked better if I stuck around. But I didn't like the constant paranoia and irrationalism - I liked it better at the beginning when all these things were in tension (government agents/government plots; rational/irrational; science/magic, etc). But then it always came down on the same side - Mulder was always right, Scully was always wrong (or being convinced), the government was always evil. And I didn't trust that the whole thing would make sense. I did like the portrait of America as a nation of isolated weirdos though.

I think you would've liked Skinner. He's grey. Doesn't hurt that he seems to have sexual tension with every character.

The consipiracy-themed plots bored me. The--ugh--"mytharc" is a hot mess. I love the monsters-of-the-week episodes though. They have the right amount of creepiness and scariness. I

That sounds pretty much exactly how I felt - one day I'll try it again, I guess, but it sounds like at least 2 weeks utterly down the tube.

*catches up with LJ like a week later*

I guess the main point is that I feel like TV has gotten too planned and lacks sufficient idiosyncrasy a lot of the time. I liked the looseness and rough edges and playfulness. It felt like a show made by people.

Have you ever watched the show Farscape? Same kind of feeling. They'll just throw a ton of story spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. (Most of it sticks.)

Hi Goosey!

I have been meaning to watch Farscape forever, but it seems so daunting - there's *so much* of it. But I should. It sounds like my kind of thing!

88 episodes! (Plus a 3hr miniseries.) Fringe had 100...

Fair warning, though, Farscape takes a little while to find its feet...much of the first season is mediocre, and not that similar to what the latter 3 seasons are like.

And of course you have many other excellent things to watch, so. :) I've started on Misfits!

I enjoyed Misfits, but then at a certain point all the characters/actors change and I just didn't stick with it.

I didn't like Fringe S1 - I wonder if I could just read something about Farscape characters etc (crack van or something) rather than watch S1?
