I'm not usually given to jumping when someone says the word but the topic of equivalence got me to thinking:
The best weapon is the one you only have to fire once-Tony Stark; Stark Industries.
It's one of my better quotes. They put it in Time magazine. For the record, it's something I still believe but the ideals that I once used to support it have changed.
Equivalence implies equality. It implies that this is equal to that and it used to be my job. I own a company that manufactures weapons. I never thought a great deal about world peace back then-this is previous to the privatization of world peace. You can send donations of gratutide to The Welcome Center. Miss Rushman has the proper information-but I didn't consider the damage done by the weapons my company sold. I thought I was giving everyone an equal chance by arming the world with bombs, guns and missiles. It makes sense from a distance. I didn't care whether I was selling to the Russians, the Americans or the Muslims. After all the right to bear arms is the foundation of America. Why not extend that right to world?
Then I saw what was really being done with my weapons. I realized the little guys don't get the chance to buy anything and if they do it's taken from them by people with more. More weapons, more population; it doesn't really matter. More always wins. That's when Stark Industries started delving into clean energy sources as well as other less volatile inventions and that's when Iron Man was born.
Now I'm the only one with the weapon that only has to be fired once and the world is much more equal than it's ever been. The people that would disrupt that balance are scared and I make sure they stay that way. I guess in practice equivalence isn't about equality. It's about fear.
Iron Man is the scariest of them all. At least in my world.
June 24th happens to be Mid Summer Night. It doesn't hold any particular meaning for me but it is an excuse for a party with costumes. I've got a beach house, there will be a bonfire, a DJ, plenty of alcohol, dancing and the aforementioned costumes. Miss Rushman will provide everyone with more details as the date approaches and an official RSVP will be sent out to the network. For now, start thinking about your costumes. I've got one in mind.
