so i'm having a simple but annoying with microsoft works word processor (might have the same problem on microsoft word, not too sure...) and it's stupid spellchecker and autocorrect system. i noticed last night when i was working on my hp_rarities fic that when i type "point he" (as in, 'at which point he went away...') it auto incorrects itself into "poin ( Read more... )

I turn off the auto correct (there are a few things it does like that - Word also). You still get the red underline, so you can right click manually and it'll give you suggestions later, or do a spell check to have it prompt you for all 'errors' it finds.

Tools - autocorrect - uncheck the box (automatically use suggestions from the spell checker).

Hope that helps.

thanks hon :) what i forgot to mention was that i don't like turning off autocorrect because it doesn't turn these sort of speech marks (") into the ones that curve inwards (i believe they're called smart quotes)

Actually, the box I mentioned only turns off the auto-replace dictionary suggestions. It still leaves smart quotes, accidental capslock and other things on.

Oh, and that test was charming ... ;)

oh... ::is puzzled:: i'm sure i've turned that option off before and the reason i had to put it back again was because the smart quotes weren't included. i'll try it again or maybe just convert to word and see if that's any better :D

the test is a bundle of joy, isn't it? lol! ::hugs::

LOL i don't know why it took me so long to post that link, i knew about the test up to five years ago! and it's funny you should mention falling out your seat because when my sister took it she actually fell out of the chair and rolled on the carpet while my cousin just went so pale i was going to call him draco ;)

That test nearly killed me.

*pets her delicate senses*

You have to make it better, because you tricked me into taking that test! Do something, now!

Hint: chocolate helps against Dementors... *g*

*catches chocolate bars*

I know that in the US, people warn for nudity even if it's just about breastfeeding and hand out the gore like lollipops. But I'm an old-fashioned European with a very good eye-sight, and I couldn't see a warning on YOUR test, so yes, I regard that as TRICKING me! *g*

Now, I wish I could send Severus from your icon to you to do as he pleases, but I'm afraid that you might enjoy it too much. *ggg*

A Gryffindor would just send you a Howler. I think about how to force you into sending more chocolate, preferably dark. Milky bars are just a bit too milky. But when I was a child, I tried if they would really swim in milk, like the advertising proclaimed. They do! So yay for youth research! *g* What exactly are Malteasers? I understand that they're also a kind of chocolate bar, right?

In your autocorrect there should be a place to add your own corrections. Just type point in both the boxes.

I will admit I have Word 2007, so it might be different, but I've been able to add many things to mine so they autocorrect. Like my constantly typing Darco - now it automatically changes it to Draco. *shrugs* works for me. lol

it's just annoying because i'll regularly use "point the" and "point he" so changing one phrase will automatically affect the other lol. you'd think with how far technology has come forward that they'll be able to sort it out (though they say that once you start complaining about technology means you're relying on it too much) ;)
