Ben: "I couldn't call my wife." at the beginning, the convo between Terry and Ben in the men's room ("Is Ella okay?" - defensive Ben), and then finally "Is that why Ella left you?". Just lovely!
I really loved this too.

I loved that we finally got a real reaction from Amy! It was one of the things I was happiest about in the episode.

and that first bomb scene was mindblowing, I want more scenes where Ben looses control completely like that.

Yes, same here. And I am really happy we got this kind of reaction.
Also loved her scene with Ella. Though poor Amy seems to be blamed for Ben's erratic behavior by some...

and that first bomb scene was mindblowing, I want more scenes where Ben looses control completely like that.

Me too! But it seems like he's spiralling out of control slowly, so I bet we will. Child!Ben's first appearance hopefully means we'll see more of him utterly helpless.

Man, I so hope the ratings will improve and this show will get many more seasons. Ben is one of the most intriguing characters ever.

yeah, I thought that telling Ella was a big part of the reaction. It wouldn't just have been enough to punch him. I also wonder if Amy will confront him about it, or just keep shutting up.
But I wish they didn't break Ella and Ben up so quickly... she's been through this with him before, so I thought she's be able to take a bit more. Not just leave right away. Then again, their son being kidnapped is probably more than enough for her to handle right now.

It's wrong to be this excited about him losing control.

Man, I have no idea about Canadian ratings. Are they bad? Are they average? Is it likely that it's gonna get canceled?
*wishes there was a tvbythenumbers thing about canadian ratings*

I thought that telling Ella was a big part of the reaction.

Yes, and I feel it also fits in with Amy's loyalty. Ella was the only one she could turn to with her concerns that was outside the police, thus not putting Ben's job on the line. That surveillance tape has to come back at some point.

The break up - see comments below about more scenes online.
And ya, I get you that it seemed too fast, but I liked how it wasn't stated flat out and I suppose the kidnapping and cheating on top of everything was just too much. In a weird way, Ella seemed more together in this ep (well, aside from buying drugs...)

It's wrong to be this excited about him losing control.

Nope, it's very, very right ;)

Well, some reviews mentioned that the ratings aren't that great and Canada's reality TV shite seems to get over 1 million viewers, while Shattered is at about 1/3rd of that, so I guess it isn't very good indeed.

I've just watched the beginning of the online version of the last ep on global website and "previously on shattered" shows that at least one episode has been omitted. It explains the porn, Naomi, "Is that why Ella left you?" an why he couldn't call his wife. At least it looks like it has been omitted because imdb shows that Polly Shannon appears in the 2nd and 6th ep, so this "omission" must have been planned. "Previously on Shattered" in the version we could download is completely different and irrelevant to the content of the current episode. What's going on?

Huh - how odd. Will watch the online version in a mo.
Only possible explanation is that that article a while back saying they were only showing 10 eps and not 13 was right and they already left one out. If that's the case - FUCKERS!

Best case scenario - they used some cut scenes for the "previously" section. Sort of like they sometimes use scenes for promos/trailers that end up being cut...

WHAT THE VERY FUCK?!

This has to be it. Don't wanna think about other scenarios...

From my quick recount for Daria above, aside from the porn scene, the rest HAS to be from future eps. Makes no sense otherwise!

edited: holy fuck, Daria not Dario! *faceplam!*

\you/ I always MASSIVELY enjoy your reviews!!!

The whole ep, especially both bomb scenes were just fantastic. WORDS FAIL ME. To witness his child alter saying "don't wanna die" over and over again, and his smart alter, and the violent one (I think he said "they talk too much"?) just left my jaw hanging open. And the "pussy" scene! And the note in the end, "don't wanna die", just made my heart crunch up. So far, Amy (who literally kicked ass - finally!) has met 3 of Ben's alters, wonder what happens when she meets Harry. ;) I kinda ship these two, but I kinda ship like everybody with everybody here, hee.

This show is more intriguing than anything I've watched in a very long time, and I want many more seasons, please! *repeatedly checks for last ep's numbers*

And THANK YOU for finding the song! <3 Downloaded the .mp3 using tubeminator.com. I've also been wondering about the song that plays in the end and at some point before...

And I want many icons from you! :D

Wheeee, I always massively enjoy writing them ;)

WORDS FAIL ME.

Me, too. It was just incredible. And child!Ben broke my heart, but especially contrasted with Smart!Ben who was rationalising child!Ben's fear. But he was so utterly helpless and GAH! So good.

Hmmm, I can see how shipping Amy and Ben works... though, ya, everyone can be shipped with everyone here ;)

And man, at first I thought he said "They talk to much." as well, but when I listen to it today, I hear "They taught me too much." Who knows, when I watch it tomorrow I may hear "Bloody Ben is bloody sexy." But seriously, I hear him saying "me", so it cannot be "They talk..." Hmph.

And THANK YOU for finding the song! <3 Downloaded the .mp3 using tubeminator.com. I've also been wondering about the song that plays in the end and at some point before...

You're veddy welcome!
But man, I am bummed I cannot find the song at the end, though the lyrics are understandable. And I still want that song from the last ep when Harry walked into the bar...

AWESOME ICON!

One more thing: his trailer is his hermitage and a "shrine" devoted to his son. That much I could see. But it also looks to me like the place where he tries to chart his illness and his personalities. Sticking "Don't wanna die" to the wall would suggest that but I just couldn't see the details of all the pictures and articles he collected. Am I right?

That's what I think as well.

At the end of the pilot I thought it was his place to both, well, commemorate his son (because I think Ben is convinced their son is dead, while Ella still refuses to give up on him - hence her celebrating his birthday and her own "shrine" at home). It also seemed to be the place where Ben keeps track of the case - articles and such.

I'll have to look more closely to see if there was also stuff about his personalities there and if he's charting them. The mirror from the first ep would make sense for that.
But maybe "Don't wanna die." was sort of for him AND his son, hence the absence of "I"?

Brilliant recap!

Watching the "previously" clip, I definitely think they cut an episode in-between, big shame on them and no big service to continuity /o\

Why did Ben write "Don't wanna die." as opposed to "Want to live."
Big question, indeed. For me "Don't wanna die" is a mere expression of his will to survive, whereas wanting to live implies a whole different sort of energy, like in loving life, loving to wake up every morning, happily waiting on life's expectations. With what he's going through, it makes sense that even if he doesn't want to die, he's far from enjoying life. :D?

Whee, thank you!

See, I came to the conclusion that most of the clips have to be from future eps. They just don't make sense otherwise. E.g. - Ella shooting up when we saw in this ep that she bought heroin for the first time again in a long time, as her dealer said. Also the moment when Ben goes to see Naomi and is clearly Ben and not Harry, as Naomi assumes, because he just learned about her being the hooker in the last ep. Someone really messed up.

For me "Don't wanna die" is a mere expression of his will to survive, whereas wanting to live implies a whole different sort of energy

Very well put and I totally agree. It is about surviving for Ben, in more than one sense (literally, as well as as an individual). So "Want to live" wouldn't have fit as well.
Which... *huggles Ben*... so heartbreaking!
