Being cheeky...

For various complicated reasons, I have ended up in the bonkers situation that I am going to run a half-marathon, the BUPA Great North Run, on behalf of Leukaemia Research. I realise that this is cheeky, but if anyone would like to support them by sponsoring me it would be a good deed, and much appreciated ( Read more... )

woah.
It seems everyone around me is doing this sort of thing.
I am sitting on the sofa eating toast. I should get people to sponsor me to see how long I can do this. All money would go to the toast council or something.

I'm not sure the work of the Toast Council is sufficiently aligned with my values to make me want to donate money to it - what about something else?

How much toast would you eat? :)

The Toast council promotes active eating of jam and butter and I would eat enough toast to produce a spectacular event.

Scary, and yet strangely true. Except that I'm turning 40 next year - a fact that alarms me somewhat. Are there things I'm meant to have done by now?

Seeing who it was from made me smile, and the content made me giggle - thanks for both :)

It wasn't a triumph of athleticism, but then neither am I - certainly the hardest physical thing I've ever done in my life. I did the Welwyn 10 mile race in 1h 59m 56s a month before, and a 10k and a 5k in the months before that.

Still very proud of it. I wish I'd kept up with the running, but other things drove it out of my schedule.

Hey, thats not so bad for a first attempt. My next big race is the IBM Uptown Classic, a 10k on Oct. 21 that starts in the main IBM Campus here in Austin. After yesterdays blow-up I'll be trying for sub 1-hour... doubt I'll make though :-)
