The anti-virus protection on my computer expired! Does anyone have any recommendations for a new free one?

I'd highly recommend eTrust Antivirus. It's not free, but it only costs 30 bucks or something and it's a one-time fee - no subscriptions or bullshit like that. You'll also want to grab the free version of Zonealarm, as well as Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware SE. My tech guy set me up with all of these and they work like a charm.
