Written because otakupink released a new ShishiTori doujin, and I missed these two dorks. :< And I know, I should stop giving you lame drabbles. D: And I don't know why I'm writing in present tense now. D: Smack me please if my tenses are weird. Tenses and I don't get along very well. XD;

It is a strange relationship, the one between an upperclassman and an underclassman, but nevertheless, they make it work. Shishido thinks it's because of Choutarou, with his ever polite manners and his endless patience, or it could also be because it is impossible to get irate over him, unlike the rest of the world. Either way, it is still because of Choutarou.

Choutarou thinks it's because he loves Shishido-san so much and Shishido-san loves him back, but he doesn't say. He just nods and smiles amusedly when Shishido-san talks about their strange relationship.

Tennis is the only thing keeping them together, or so Shishido thinks.

They play tennis for the last time in high school, until they have to be separated again, because Shishido graduates and needs to attend university.

As a third year high school student, Choutarou quits tennis, much to the dismay of his team captain. Shishido is shocked. Two years into university, Shishido finds the burden of his studies too much and he, too, quits tennis. Choutarou is surprised, but smiles big and warm at him afterwards.

They still play, from time to time, whenever they see each other -- which is every week, Shishido notes, quite dumbfounded. Choutarou is cheerful when Shishido points it out, so Shishido is cheerful about it as well.

Then comes the period where Choutarou has to cancel the movie on Saturday because of his violin. Shishido shrugs it off, says it’s okay, but doesn't sleep well that night. On Sunday, Choutarou is at his apartment, ringing his doorbell, and it's 9 in the goddamn morning and Shishido didn't get a wink of sleep, and he figures he looks like he didn't get a wink of sleep because Choutarou is worried and distressed and fussing over him again like a mother.

Shishido lets Choutarou in, makes sure he's seated, and retreats to the bathroom to wash his face. Coffee is waiting for him when he gets out, and he scolds Choutarou because guests are not supposed to be making coffee, but Choutarou never listens to him when he scolds, so he drinks the coffee gratefully anyway.

And it's hard to scold someone who's smiling big and sheepishly at you, looking very much amused.

They play tennis that day. Shishido misses it, and Choutarou says he does too. Shishido says he'll pay for their lunch, but Choutarou ends up paying anyway because Shishido is in the bathroom when the tab comes, and Choutarou refuses any money that Shishido-san gives him, so they watch the movie they were supposed to watch yesterday, and Choutarou lets Shishido-san treat him because he doesn't want Shishido-san feeling guilty.

Choutarou is at his doorstep on Monday. And Tuesday. And the day after that. And after that. And after that. Saturday arrives, and Choutarou cannot come over that day, but Shishido sleeps better that night than last week, because on Sunday, Choutarou is ringing his doorbell again.

Shishido opens the door and lets him in and gives him the extra key to his apartment.

Choutarou thinks it's because he loves Shishido-san so much and Shishido-san loves him back, so this time, he says so.

Shishido-san is dumbfounded, and is flustered, but he thinks that's about right.
