As some of you may know, I am currently getting back into reading for pleasure, after a few years of reading strictly for academic purposes. This list is to direct myself towards reading some stuff that I will find interesting. If you know of any English majors or reading afficionados, please send them my way. I will attempt to post a review of all ( Read more... )

I just finished "Shake Hands with the Devil" by Romeo Dallaire.

I loved it and was saddened by it all at once.

"I love historical stuff."

In that case, may I recommend Rogue Tory, an excellent biography of John Diefenbaker, by Denis Smith.

Dief the chief!

Hmmm. I don't know if I'm going to stick this on my regular reading list, because I also have a seperate political reading list that this would fit on.

1 and 5 of the books you're working on make my top ten books of all time. I'm planning to read #4 this summer too, and #3 is amazing, too.

I didn't like The Sun Also Rises - it was a slow read, and I found the misogynistic undertones a little outdated. One of my good friends loved it, though.

I really, really hate the Shopaholic books though, and I wasn't really in love with Da Vinci Code either, so our tastes probably vary a little.

Excellent! As soon as I get to it, I'll let you know what I think :)

Good to know. I told my dad that I wasn't sure I was going to like Hemingway, but then he just packed it away in a box anyways. I guess I'll never know until I try it, right?

Awww, that makes me a little sad. I'm not calling it great literature or anything, but it's my fluff, my escapism. And to tell you the truth, I think the only reason I liked Da Vinci Code so much is because it's the only pleasure reading I had time to do for the past three or four years.

I live with my nose in a book, when I can afford to (aka every second that I'm not at work or school). I'm reading They Shoot Horses, Don't They? right now, and so far I love it. As for fluff, I enjoy taking that in the form of things like The Nanny by Melissa Nathan.

I liked Angels and Demons much better than Da Vinci Code. But that's just me (although I hear it's a popular refrain)

Short stories are always good, cause if you don't like it, then you don't have to read for long. And there are some good authors in there.
