Chapter 5
The purpose of life
“Why I was born to this miserable world? Why do I need to see my family died in front of me?” that question always in Chinen’s mind. He wondered about the answers to those hard questions
It was a Sunday evening when the incident took place. Chinen was walking at a park when he saw a guy was sitting on a bench with his palms covering his face. Beside him, a guy tried to comfort him. There’s also a little child looking at the two guys. Perhaps, he’s the brother of the comforting guy.
“Onii-chan, where will we go after we die?” the little child asked his brother who was busy coaxing his friend.
“Of course to the heaven,” he brother answered shortly.
“All of us? What if the person was a bad person? For example, a thief. Will he go to the heaven too? Doesn’t the heaven is only for good person?” the child kept asking. His questions attracted Chinen. The big brother was shocked with the unexpected question from his little brother.
“Onii-chan, can a child die?” the child continued asking his shocked brother.
Even I myself can’t answer it. Chinen monologue alone.
On the way back home until now, he kept asking himself. What is the real purpose of my life? It is possible for me to die now? What will happen to me if I die? Am I good enough to go to the heaven?
“There is something that I lack of in my life,” said Chinen suddenly. He forgot that he was resting in the JUMP’s room after a dance practice.
“What did you say just now, Chinen?” Hikaru who was sitting nearby asked him. The other members came closer to them to know what had happen. To them, all the members are like brothers and hey Say JUMP is their second family.
“It’s nothing. I just think about my life. Am I going to continue this monotonous daily life forever? Wake up in the morning, go to work, eat, watch TV and then sleep. Does this routine enough to deserve me with the heaven?” All the Hey Say JUMP’s members were shocked to hear such words from Chinen.
“Ah, forget it. Let’s continue our practice.” Chinen didn’t want it to disturb their mood and practice.
“I think what Chinen said is true,” whispered Inoo to Yabu after they had finished their practice. “We lack something.” He repeated it.
**************************
It was Saturday. Chinen decided to stay at home although Yamada and Yuto had invited him to hang out with them.
“I'm sorry, I can't. I had something to do. Moreover, today my sister will return home from her camping trip,” he said to Yuto through a phone conversation.
“It’s okay then. I’ll invite Keito and Ryutaro. Have a good day!” Yuto said back to him.
Chinen switched on his laptop. He connected it to the internet. First, he checked his mail box. There’re tons of fan mails. He selected all and marked them as ‘read’. Then, he typed an entry in the Yahoo! Engine search. The entry was ‘What do I need for life?’
He picked up an article from the search result list. Then, he read another and another and another articles. The articles mainly said that one’s essential need is money. Without money, one will lead a miserable life. It is true that money is the most essential in one’s life? I had a lot of money but there is something that I miss. He continued his reading.
Suddenly, an entry attracted him. The entry was different from the other. It said that apart from physical need such as food, drink, shelter and clothes, one also have to fulfill his emotional and spiritual need.
Emotional?
Spiritual?
Yeah, I lack of them in my life! I only had a physical life, no 'soul' at all!
“Yuri-chan! Hurry up. We’re going now. Your sister will arrive soon,” his mother’s call swept away his thought.
“Two minutes, okaa-san,” he replied. He shut down his laptop and get out of his room quickly.
