Reach for the sky
“There’s a problem!” Miss Suhana’s words shocked the two girls.
“What happen, teacher?” Salsabila asked. The new sure had shocked her.
“Don’t say that the trip to Osaka had been cancelled,” Dini said, full of hope.
“No, it’s not that,” the teacher said. Dini took a deep relieve breath. “But, the venue had been changed. The festival will be held in Tokyo.” She explained.
“So, what’s the problem?” asked Salsabila. She still can’t get it.
“See. Our tickets are scheduled to Osaka. For your information, Osaka and Tokyo are a bit far. So, we need to take another flight. But, no need to worry about the tickets cost because it is sponsored by the government.”
“So, there’ll be two flights,” Salsabila nodded her head as she tried to understand what the teacher’s said just now.
“It sure very tiring,” Dini mumbled.
“Just a little,” Miss Suhana coaxed her. “By the way, have you prepared for the flight tomorrow?”
“Yes,” they answered almost together.

It was Friday night. Around 9.00 p.m. The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is as busy as usual. Crowds of people are to be seen anywhere. Salsabila, Dini and their teacher were wandering around the lobby. They’re waiting or their turn to check-in their luggage. Together with them were their families who came to send them off.
“Ah, it’s our turn. Give me your luggage. I’ll do for you. Just wait there,” Miss Suhana gave out instructions. They nodded their head and handed their luggage to the teacher. They waited with their family nearby.
After fifteen minutes, the teacher came back. “It’s done. We had three hours more before departed. So, now you can go anywhere you like and come back by 10.30 p.m.” the teacher instructed them.
“Okay!”
Salsabila and her family decided to go touring around the KLIA complex. They searched for something to eat outside the airport because the food and beverages in the airport were very costing.
“Salsabila, eat a lot,” Mrs. Fatima forced her. Salsabila grinned a bit. “You’re going to experience a long journey. It’ll be very tiring.”
“Alhamdullillah*. I’m full,” said Salsabila after she had finished a plate of Pattaya rice and a bowl of vegetable soup.
By 10.25 p.m., they’re already arrived the airport. While waiting, Salsabila chatted with her family and relatives. Then, Dini and Miss Suhana joined them.
When their flight call reverberated by 11.00 p.m., they hoisted their hand luggage. Their families, relatives and friends gave their last word to them.
“Do your best. Prove to the world that Malaysians are excellent too.”
“Insya-Allah*. We’ll do our best.”
“Don’t forget to pray.”
“Of course, we won’t.”
“Best of luck.”
“Ameen*.”
They recited the journeys pray together, praying for their safety throughout the journey.
Then, Salsabila hugged her siblings, one by one. Tears started flowing down her cheek when she was hugging her parents.
“Ummi*, pray for my safety and success,” she whispered to Mrs. Fatima. She tightened her hug. "Abi*, pray for me too," she said to her father, Mr. Abdullah.
“Of course, Ummi and Abi always pray for your success in life and Hereafter life,” her mother replied. Her father just nodded his head.
Salsabila, Dini and Miss Suhana waved their hand to their families, relatives and friends who sent them off as they went into the departure hall. Tears continued flowing down their cheek.
Tokyo! Wait for me! Salsabila’s heart shouted.
