Chapter 6
A tough journey

Tala’ al-badru ‘alayna

Min thaniyyatil-wada’

Wajaba al-shukru ‘alayna

Ma da’a lillahi da’

O the white moon rose over us

From the valley of Wada

And we owe it to show gratefulness

Where the call is to Allah

Ayyuha al-mab’uthu fina

Ji’ta bi-al-amri al-muta’

Ji’ta sharrafta al-madinah

Marhaban ya khayra da’

O you who were raised amongst us

Coming with a word to be obeyed

You have brought to this city nobleness

Welcome! Best caller to God’s way

Salsabila put on her earphone. She hummed the melody of the song ‘The White Moon’ by Yusuf Islam as she was listening to it. She felt touching with the lines of the song. The song was sung by the Madinah’s people when they celebrated the arrival of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him (pbuh). Then, she realized how difficult the Prophet’s journey compared to her journey now. She traveled in an airplane while the Prophet only walked on his feet through the hot Arabia desert for 500 kilometers accompanied by a camel. How difficult! So many obstacles! But, he faced them patiently and full of tolerance. He was thrown by stones and dirt but he only prayed for the best of the person who did it. How nice he was! Her tears flowed down out of sudden. Am I really following his good behaviour?

Allahumma salli ala Muhammad wa ala alihi wa sahbihi wasallam.

Oh Allah (God), may YOU bless your Messenger, Muhammad pbuh, his family and companion and grant them peace.

Salsabila recited the 'selawat'* many times. She tried to close her eyes, but she can’t. Then, she looked at the watch at her wrist. It’s already 6.00 a.m. That’s mean that the plane will land soon.

“Dini, wake up!” she awakened her friend who fell asleep just after the plane departed. “The plane will land soon. We need to hurry or we will miss the next flight.”

Both girls quickly packed their belongings into their hand luggage. By the time the plane landed, they were ready to get off. Their teacher, Miss Suhana just followed them. She only smiled when looking at her students who kept walking fast.

After taking their luggage, Salsabila and Dini directly went to the domestic counter to register for their next flight to Narita Airport.

“Where is teacher Suhana?” Dini asked when she noticed that the teacher was not around. They already waited near the counter.

“She’s there,” Salsabila near shouted when she noticed the teacher was coming there.

“You’re too fast,” the teacher complained. Both girls put on a grin.

“Excuse me, are these seats F2 and F3?” Salsabila asked a girl who was sitting by the window. The girl looked like a high schooler too.

“Yes. Anything I can help?” the sweet girl replied.

“Nothing. We just want to confirm that these are our seats,” Dini explained.

“Oh, I see. By the way, I’m Chinen Saya. 18 years old. Nice to meet you,” she introduced herself.

“I’m Salsabila. 16 years old." Salsabila said as she was shaking Saya’s hand. At first, she was hesitating to continue but she suddenly remembered the fact that Japanese welcomed foreigners who tried to speak Japanese, so finally she continued, "Yorishiku onegaishimasu.”

“I’m Dini. 16 too.” Dini introduced herself.

“I think I should call you Saya-neechan,” Salsabila suggested. Chinen Saya carved a sweet smile. Salsabila sat in between the two girls. Saya-neechan was on her right and Dini on her left.

“Well, what are you doing here?” Saya asked Salsabila.

“We’re going to participate in the 'International Science Festival for High School Student' which is held in Tokyo. What about you?” she asked back.

“I’m returning home from a week camping trip in Osaka,” she answered nicely.

They continued chatting until they felt tired and finally fell asleep. They had been best friends in an instant. But, Salsabila still can’t close her eyes. Maybe because she was very eager to see how Tokyo is.

Tokyo! I’m coming!

Note :

selawat - a prayer recited by the Muslim to express his/her love towards the Prophet pbuh with a hope to get the Prophet's help in the Hereafter life so that he/she can enter the Paradise.
