Chapter 9

On the rooftop

“Arrrrrgh! It’s totally a relieved that I’ve finally finish my work.” Chinen shouted as loud as he could. Actually, he’s tired of facing some crazy fangirls who tried to flirt with him. Such jerk! However, he missed the fact that Salsabila also a big fan of him! He looked around to confirm that nobody was there, on the rooftop. He had gone there alone, without Yamada and Yuto as usual. Suddenly, he noticed two figures were doing something behind the pile of boxes at a corner. He looked carefully to identify them.

“What?” his eyes nearly came out. “Those girls? What should I do?”

He gripped the fence tightly. “What a shame of me! Shout without looking around. Next time, thinks before act!” he babbled to himself.

“But, what are they doing here?” he felt curious.

Chinen stepped slowly towards the girls. Both girls didn’t notice his presence.

He was stunned for a while. He looked at Salsabila carefully and curiously. She was doing something very weird. First, she stood up straight, putting both hands on her chest while reciting something and looking and the ground firmly. Then, she bowed down her body nearly 90 degree, placing both palms on her knees. Then she stood up again for a while. This time, she put her hand straightly by her side. After that, she lowered her body until her forehead, knees and palms touched the ground. Its look like a sort of meditation but isn’t there too many movement? He became confused again.

“Dini, let’s go,” Salsabila called her friend after finishing it. She pretended to not noticing Chinen’s presence there.

She was about to make a move when Chinen said something.

“Excuse me, can we have a talk?” Chinen asked Salsabila politely. “I somehow feel that you know a lot of things that I don’t. Our conversation just now was too short.” He really wanted to talk with her.

“Of course, we can.” Dini answered it on the behalf of Salsabila although she knew that Salsabila was a bit disagreeing with her action.

They chose to stand at a corner where the view is greater and wind blown calmer.

“By the way, I haven’t introduced myself yet,” Chinen started a conversation. “I’m Chinen. Chinen Yuri.” He showed his hand for a start of a friendship shake.

“I’m so sorry but we can’t shake hand with boys,” Salsabila bowed her head a bit. Dini was doing so to.

“It’s okay. Sorry, I don’t know,” Chinen tried to act normal although his face getting reddish.

“Well, how did you know this place?” he changed the topic.

“We asked a guy and he told us,” Dini told him.

*********************************

“Excuse me; is there any place that we could have some privacy?” Dini asked the tall skinny guy she met in the hallway.

“I mean a place with no people there,” Salsabila explained more clearly.

“Let me see,” Yuto replied. “Now is recess so the students are at the cafeteria. Well, I think the rooftop is empty right now,” he continued and carved a smile.

“Which way should we take?” Dini asked for the direction.

“The staircase at the end of this hallway will lead you to the rooftop,” he guided them.

“Thank you so much,” the girls bowed a bit. “We have to make a move first.”

“Wait a bit,” he stopped them. “Can I know your name?”

“I’m Dini and she is Salsabila,” Dini answered shortly before she quickly followed Salsabila who was already climbed the stairs.

“Salsabila. What a nice name,” he mumbled alone and he carved a meaningful smile on his lips. He got something in his mind.

**************************

“So, did you know his name?” Chinen asked Dini after she ended up her story.

“Nope. I forgot to ask,” Dini replied with a disappointment in her tone.

******************************

Yuto rushed to the cafeteria to get Yamada. His friend was just finished his work when he came like a storm.

“What’s up Yuto?” Yamada asked.

“Yama-chan, let’s go,” he insisted. “To the rooftop.”

“Why?” Yamada was confused with Yuto sudden action.

“I have an instinct that something interesting gonna happen there. Remember what we saw this morning?”

“At the registration table?” Yuto nodded. They looked at each other and grinned. Something was hidden in the look and grins.

********************************

“The view is great ne,” Dini killed the silence between them.

“Sure. It’s peaceful. I always come here to release my tension,” Chinen told her. Hope they didn’t hear me shouting just now.

“So, that’s why you shouted just now?” Dini asked him.

Oh no! They heard it. What a shame of me! Chinen showed a line of his white teeth. He quickly looked away to hide his blushed face.

“By the way, what are you doing just now, Salsabila-san?” he asked the quiet girl who was enjoying the great scenery.

“Praying,” she answered shortly without looking at him.

“Is it possible to pray here? Doesn’t it can only be performed at the shrine or temple?” he becoming more confused with the unthinkable answer (for him).

“No, it can be done anywhere as long as the place is clean because Allah, the God has no exact place.” She explained concisely.

“You do it everyday?” he asked.

She nodded. “Five times per day.” She added.

“So many. What for?” he threw out another question. How many times did I pray all this while? He asked himself.

“Well, prayer is a way to show our gratitude to Allah, the God for HIS Mercifulness. HE provides us with a comfortable life, enough oxygen for breathing, sufficient water for daily usages, nutritious food, happy families, functional body parts and etc. It is also a good exercise for our body and helps the blood to flow smoothly into the body parts especially the brain. It is proven scientifically that can help in keeping us healthy.”

Chinen was amazed with the fact. It does not only fulfill the spiritual need, but the physical need too. “You said that you performed it five times a day. Doesn’t it take too much time?” he wanted to know more.

“No. A prayer takes around 5 minutes only. Multiply by five so its only 25 minutes out of 24 hour a day. Just a little time, right?” she washed away Chinen’s confusion.

Chinen nodded his head agreeing with Salsabila. I understand it now!

**************************

“You see that, Yama-chan?” Yuto asked.

“Yeah, they seem to be chatting happily,” he focused his binocular sharply to them. It’s hard for them to peep directly with their naked eye from the narrow opening of the staircase room door.

“What are you doing? Stalking?” suddenly Ryutaro attacked them.

“Shh!” Yuto gave instruction. “Talk slowly!”

“You came out of sudden and startled us. Where’s your manner?” Yamada scolded Ryutaro.

“Gomen,” he apologized. “But, what are you doing?” he repeated his question.

Yuto pointed his finger to their target. Ryutaro could see a guy was chatting with two girls.

“Isn’t that our Chinen?” he asked with a bit shock in his tone. The two guys nodded.

“They’re coming,” Yamada informed the other two unaware guys. “Let’s go before they notice us.”

***********************************

“Chinen, wanna know something?” Dini suddenly approached him when Salsabila had already gone down.

“What?”

“She's a very shy person. It’s unusual for her to be close to any guy,” she told him. “Especially, her crush.” She lowered her voice.

“What was your last sentence? I can’t get it,” Chinen wanted a confirmation.

“Nothing. Just forget it.” Dini went away, leaving the confused Chinen alone.
