"The One"

I've just been watching a Dutch tv series about love. Cafe de Liefde/Cafe Love, it's one of the best reporting shows I have seen in ages but as it is in Dutch I will not be able to give you any links...that irks me. If something is good I wanna share! *grmbls

Anyways, it is a mix of people's personal stories and views on love and relationships and now and then they throw in part of interviews with experts and scientists in the field.

If you learn how to be in a relationship from your parents I had a crappy example. My mother had a phenomenally bad taste in men (well in the two relationships she had) and she got very sarcastic when in conflict instead of dealing with issues right out. I inherited the bitchy part but also learned never to let anything lie under the surface. Maybe she was just fighting to combine her firy personality with her own Indo upbringing. Her Indo parents were about loyalty to your partner, grandma being the submissive partner (in the non BDSM sense) and bring things out in the open isn't the Indo way. You sit there and the other person has to read your mood and act accordingly. Yeah try that in today's western world.

Plus OL where I am having my relationship it doesn't work either. And after two years we are still trying to find out what works. Even with the best of intentions you can screw up. While watching all the tips on good long term relationships (contently married for 50 years woohoo! I want!) there is usually more I see that I/we are doing wrong than right. Yet that doesn't make me think it will never happen for us, it's hard to judge what our ideal relationship would be like. Pure comfort and contentment just seem a bit passionless for now.

The program mentioned a dating site unlike any other. It has the same profiles and everything yet what the people advertise about themselves are their quirks and bad habits. The same things that their last partner broke up with them for. Hilarious.

This way you will get matched with someone who already knows you sleep with your socks on or that you are neurotic and that will not be an issue later on. Someone's quirks can actually be something charming about a person. I definitly have a love hate relationship with some of winterforth's personality traits. Calling someone a bastard can sound like a petname. If I would call him honey he would get seriously confused.

Aside from the fact that his parents were married when he was born I think I have the honesty thing down.*smirkle*

Ya know this is one of those posts where you start writing and I can't recall what point I had somewhere down the line. It could have been a very short post with OMG I'm so in love with winterforth he's my 'One" but that sounds like pelting anyone who reads it with pink pillows with drool on it and that's in bad taste. Plus the whole perhaps having to take it back one day. (old drooly pink pillow Ewwww!)
