I'm not sure if it's still catburglary if you leave a window open for the cat (just not that one) but it did involve unlawful entry and cats.
A while back I posted about my kitty (Mickey) 's lack of security skills, it has continued. Oddly enough it's not his lack of territorial drive so much, as shown by his interest in beating up (well not seriously) a small young pussycat called Minous last week. There was nothing offensive about her, she was just exploring and as her owner was calling after her I think she was new. Other cats get chased off too, others he runs away from but the main issue are the ones he "likes" or tolerates.
Perhaps he is just good at making friends but there are at least 3 or 4 cats that are not supposed to come in here and explore. One or two look very similar to my own cat in halflight, grey striped with similar white spots. It could be just one cat if the owner keeps putting the collar with a bell on and off. I've stopped worrying when I hear the tinkling at night..and apparently so has Mickey. He will sleep trough another cat running around the house jumping on everything now and will sit idly by when his food bowls are raided. A clear case of food will be replaced as soon as I ask Zen.
My old cats had that attitude too another cat coming in for lunch just meant they would get a new flavor right afterwards. Which they enjoyed. (Me=food dispenser with heated seating build in)
A little while back I woke up at night from the weight of a cat on my feet. Obviously I assumed it was Mickey so I rolled over to offer my front. Now the weather is cooling down he has taken to sleeping on my chest again. This time the cat startled a bit and when he jumped down I could hear the bell. OK....visiting cat. I heard it roam the other rooms, not panicked at all. I couldn't be bothered to get up to chase it out again and next thing I knew I felt the cat on my feet again...this was obviously deliberate.
He/she was standing on my feet waiting for the weight to bend them down to illicit a response from me. Basically this is like a kid jumping on your bed screaming "Hey look at me!". Being a cat person this amused me so I didn't respond at all, the cat was toying with me to see what I would do to get to know me, judge how dangerous I was. They get very confident at night. When I didn't respond I could feel the cat coming closer to sniff at me before it left.
Last night I woke up without knowing what woke me, Mickey was on my chest so I petted him and then he hissed. Which was starting for a moment until I heard the bell ring. The visiting cat had been standing against my bed sniffing Mickey/me. I dunno maybe one of these days I'll wake up with two cats on me, visiting cat seems very interested in me. But as most of these encounters take place with me having my eyes closed or in the dark I can't tell which of the cats is there at the time. All I know is that Mickey likes them well enough.
The only reason I don't already have two cats at the moment is that I only have one lap, perhaps some neglected friendly kitty will end up taking residence with me eventually (like Mickey did). I'm pretty unscary, being a girl on my own and offer a wide array of food after all. *smirkle*
Ofcourse at the moment the main reason for these nightly visits is curiosity..and I'm pretty much just as curious right back. We always seek contact with pets but it's nice to have it the other way around. Does that cat bounce on his own people's feet at night too? If so, how do they respond? I guess what woke me this morning must have been Mickey going on allert sit on my chest.
He's being pretty cute with the sleeping on me, but sometimes he wants to really share my breath and it can get a bit stifling. He's about 6 kilos I think and when he's nose to nose with me I can totally understand how babies get killed by accident when the cat is too friendly. A girlfriend of mine always slept with the cat in her crib and even refused to sleep if the cat wasn't there, she must have been quite lucky he didn't sleep on her chest. I can't say it improves my nightime rest but what can I say....I love cats. Sometimes in the morning as the sun shines on the bed he does that lazy roll over and I can finally rub his belly without awakening his hunt and claw the hand response. He's like a ragdoll then.
Not that I escape him unscathed any day, he uses his claws and teeth to get my attention any time of the day and there will be blood if I'm not careful. Not my favorite thing about him but it's my own fault. I should ignore his bad behaviour but it's is very hard to ignore his nails going into my skin and him bringing my hand to his mouth for some chewing. His huntingclaw/thumb is also very much in use and that's where my main wounds come from. I guess it helps my immune system though, he keeps injecting me with germs and I'm hardly ever sick.
Oh and this link make me snigger
