Challenges of learning a foreign language

Jun 13, 2010 16:48

I have been busy as of late, juggling more flights due to a slight shortage of staff and trying to learn a bit of Borginian on the side. I've picked up the Borginian edition of Rosetta Stone but realistically, it is quite a challenge to remember it all ( Read more... )

Congratulations on your interior design being approved, Ms Teneiro. I'm so happy for you. My, it certainly sounds--

--vivid and energetic! I hope I'll be able to see it someday.

I wish I could be of more help where Borginian is concerned. I hope you'll find someone to tutor you. Do feel free to ask me if you ever need any assistance learning either of Cohdopia's two national languages.

Thank you once again, Ambassador. I hope so, too.

I've always had an interest in Cohdopia's languages. They are both very beautiful. Perhaps they will be the next languages I attempt to take on after finally mastering how to serve passengers in Borginian.

Pah, not that neon-colored nightmare you were showing off a few weeks ago! You wouldn't catch me dead flying in such an unfashionable eyesore!

In that case you will be pleased to know my "post-modern" design has been scrapped for a far "safer" one.

However, I must persist that a colorful interior will do wonders on brightening your mood. Perhaps it may be of benefit to you, ma'am.

What are you trying to say? I'm perfectly sunny and cheerful! That's just the problem with you and your postmodernism. You're too bright, so bright it's blinding! Really, someone would have to pay ME to lose my sight in an old box like that!

Ooh, Borginian. Not sure how hard it is to learn to speak it, but like, I wouldn't want to learn how to write it. It looks, like, as complicated as Chinese and Japanese! Too many weird symbols.

But like, so they let you design the inside of a plane? Cool! It's really, like, the least they could do for screwing over your old outside design.

Yes, writing it is the most challenging of it all. Fortunately, for now I only need to concentrate on learning the basics in order to serve Borginian passengers to the best of ability.

I'm glad you persevered, fought for your design, and won a victory. Well done. You should be proud.

My English wasn't very good when I was pretty young, but I improved very fast once I was surrounded by English speakers. Maybe you could find a Borginian community here in L.A. - spending time with native speakers could help a lot.

Your design sounds really unique. I hope it's a success.

Thank you for the wonderful suggestion. I hadn't thought of it that way, but that method sounds very effective indeed.

Just out of curiosity, what is your first language, if I may ask?

Also, thank you. I hope so as well.

It's fine if you ask, Ms. Tenerio. My first language is Spanish.
I hope you're able to get in touch with some native speakers soon. Keep us posted.

Oh, I took a bit of Spanish in high school. Unfortunately, I can't say I'm anywhere near fluent.

I will! Thank you.
