I think I want to move...

I'm not sure if I should just never watch the news again or lock myself in my house and never leave again. First it was the measles outbreak (the froyo place at the bottom of my hill three blocks from my house made the news!), now some kid in the area has tuberculosis I am not even kidding, and over the weekend there was a shooting at the mall the ( Read more... )

I vote camper van to the woods. That's my plan.

At my mall, on that same day, there was a fistfight between shoplifters and the police that got bloody and ended with promises to bring guns next time.

Seriously. Camper van.

That's starting to sound like a good plan, cause this is starting to get ridiculous, especially on top of all the other shootings they keep reporting on around here.

Uh ... as for measles, vaccination sounds like a better plan than moving away. That sort of thing will happen wherever you go that has places where children are gathered in groups (= day care, school ( ... )

With all the people who aren't vaccinating though there's been an increase of like, a couple hundred percent. And yeah they're checking the kid's classmates, but still.

The good thing in this case is that all three of the people hit survived, and it was a targeted shooting so it wasn't just some kid shooting the place up randomly. Still freaky as hell to just be watching an unrelated show and suddenly it went split-screen with a breaking news crawl at the bottom, talking about people getting shot at the mall I was going to the next day, in a branch of the store I work for.

Wish we had some of those gun laws here. Every time you turn the news on it's some kid shooting somebody or getting shot. The other day some really smart kid took a selfie with the body. It's ridiculous.

Really, that can happen anywhere and it sounds like they have it under control. Judging by the times something like it has been on our news they'll probably find that the classmates are all fine, or maybe one or two need treatment.

I really don't get why anyone other than criminals would be opposed to gun laws, you know. It's not like they have to mean you can't have a gun if you like to hunt or shoot, they just make sure you're a responsible adult, know how to use them and obey the saftey rules.

Last time we had news of somebody being shot: 14 year old troublemaker felt threatened by a group of other kids coming to his house to talk to him, so he went out to meet them with a gas pistol the police had searched him for but not found the day before and shot a 13 year old in the eye. Poor kid's lost sight in that eye, but nobody died. That was sometime last month, no shootings since then.

I don't get the opposition to gun laws either. :/ But for some reason it's half the damn government. Idiots. Seems like every couple of days you hear about somebody getting shot, to the point where sometimes you're not sure if you've heard this story before or it's a new one sometimes.
