Painting!

Link has a new face! And two of my other dolls (Loki the wolf boy and Ryo the kitsune because I don't have a single doll that's human besides my old American Girl Felicity) are on their way to new ears.

Link's head and upper chest, with the old face scrubbed off. They aren't kidding when they call them magic erasers. Those are Loki's lil resin wolf ears, cleaned with a bit of dish soap before I started. Ryo's fox ears aren't in the picture because I hadn't scrubbed the old paint and pastel off them yet.

The trick is to work slowly and in thin layers, there are two coats of white paint on his eyes here, and two coats on Loki's ears. The big ones are Ryo's fox ears, scrubbed back to bare resin.

The white of Link's eyes is about done here, and there's one coat on Ryo's ears in comparison to three on Loki's. See what I mean about thin layers? Those are the wigs I'm working to match the ears to.

Link's eyes are done! And there's a bit of color on his lips as well, so he's done but for the gloss. I may go back with some pastels later once it's warm enough to spray my usual sealant. The base colors are done on the ears, it's hard to tell the difference from the resin in the picture but the insides of the ears have been painted with a very, very pale gold. One of Loki's ears I accidentally picked up without realizing there was black paint on my finger. >_< So hopefully I can hide that later since I couldn't wipe it all off. That's as far as the ears are going to get tonight, after a little damage control I decided that it would be better to finish them another day.

Reassembled and dressed! ...Yes, he's sewn into the bodysuit. I'm probably going to fuss with his hair a bit more, trim the bangs on the left side of his face and they need reshaped again after being wrapped in cling wrap. But otherwise, that's him!

For comparison, that's the brush I use to paint the eyes, and that is my hand, for scale.

I think he's pleased. Boots, belt and gauntlets are trash I tacked together out of microsuede until I can make his real leather gear. He's really looking like himself now, though! Only I just realized that I never gave him any eyebrows. Oops. Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow. I am incredibly pleased with the way he turned out otherwise, though.
