A dream is a wish your heart makes...

I finally saw Cinderella and oh my god you guys. It was so good. It was so so good.

For one thing it's just SO PRETTY. The sets, the locations THE DRESS. DID YOU SEE THE DRESS. DID YOU SEE THAT. OH MY GOD. It's so sparkly and that SKIRT and the way it moves and flows and I just like it a lot okay

I was kinda shocked and amused when I heard Helena Bonham Carter was the Fairy Godmother but she was perfect. And the magical transformations were amazing. I loved the way she met Cinderella, as an old woman asking her for milk or bread. Whenever you meet an old man or woman who asks you for food, you ALWAYS give it to them no matter what, and milk is something that you leave out for fairies. Such a great little touch. And did you stay to the end of the credits? She sang Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo!

I liked the prince. They gave him more character than the animated movie, the reference to that giant painting of him amused me. Not to mention the painter, cause he was awesome. XD Thinking that naming the prince Kit was a reference to the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical and His Royal Highness, Christopher Rupert (etc etc). I hope it is. The announcement of the ball reminded me of that scene in the musical, too.

And the prince has a Secret Garden! Full of roses with a swing hanging from a tree branch! No mention of whether or not it had once belonged to his mother or if her death was due to tragically falling from the swing.

I also loved the scene on the step of the palace after Cinderella fled. Kit is about to go after her and the Duke tells him that it was his duty to remain at the palace with the King, because it might be a plot to draw him away. And Kit does not ignore him, does not argue, doesn't sneak out after him, he just stays. Because the Duke is right, even though Kit knows that the girl means him no harm. And even though the Duke has other plans for the Prince's marriage he pursues her on the Prince's behalf without a word having to be exchanged.

The scene when Lady Tremaine has made Cinderella move to the attic, and she was trying to make the best of it and desperately trying to convince herself that it was a lovely place to live was so quietly heartbreaking.

And Kit being in the search party, without the Duke knowing it, which probably means that the other soldiers did know and didn't breathe a word. And it meant that the Prince himself was the one who knelt and put the slipper on her. Not that he needed the slipper to recognize her anyway. And her wedding dress was gorgeous as well!

I grew up on Into the Woods and Fractured Fairy Tales and things like that but man, sometimes it's great to watch a traditional fairy tale with helpful mice and bluebirds and magic and gorgeous dresses and handsome princes with pretty, pretty eyes and everyone lives happily ever after and there's glitter and sparkles and did I mention that dress? I want one. Also the shoes. I want the shoes. Like, so much.

And the Frozen short was also really adorable.

rambly reviewish type thing, spoilers, movies
