I've having a silly, pointless and whiny "Why was he making a HORSE that seems random!" thing ever since I saw the episode but reading this just now has made me decide he was making an image of Twinklyboo, just like the sparkly smoke dragon = Arthur bit of Moment of Truth
And so much epic WORD to the meta-rant about Arthur/Gwen/Merlin. It's been bugging me all series how poorly they've been handling the relationships between those three. They've been pushing the Arthur/Gwen epic romance of epicness at the expense of the friendship between Arthur/Merlin and that really annoys me. If I go on any more I'll turn into a shaky pile of incoherent rage and that's never pretty.
That cap of Arthur with his pouty lip IS THE CUTEST THING EVER!
Seriously, when is Merlin going to stop doing completely obvious things in front of other people with his magic. Even after the whole smoke horse debacle, he still makes the knife red hot IN FRONT OF EVERYONE.
AND NO ONE SEES!
What, does metal suddenly and inexplicable glow red all the time?
Agree with you on almost everything babe, but especially the ending - it´s surprising how "unbalanced" (sorry, don´t know better word for it) are those scenes with Merlin doing magic. This whole episode is about what doing magic can cause to Merlin and people around him and yet he will do something as stupid as
"Smuggle takes Morgana hostage, and Merlin quietly casts a spell in a room full of magic-hating guards and royals to make the handle of Smuggle’s knife burning-hot so he drops it." I mean, WTF?! And it´s not only that, almost in every episode Merlin do something not just entirely stupid, but often very powerful and next minute he is absolutely hopeless with the smallest thing!!! I mean - he could have done that little "frog" trick on the Smuggle right from the beginning, right? And save everyone the trouble
( ... )
Just a quick thought on Arthur's passivity - I think he was pretty shaken when his father confirmed that Gaius had studied sorcery in the past. So maybe he was trying to reconcile the person he thought he knew with the idea that this person had a dark past which he HAD to believe in because DADDY confirmed it - which for someone brought up the way Arthur has been brought up could be a pretty big and confusing knot to untangle.
Having untangled that knot, though, can only help when Merlin does finally reveal his own magic.
