The Habacuc thing is something that has been bugging me for about a week now. For me, the situation makes me question the value that the Western world has of an animal's life. It's almost to the point that a dog's life is worth as much as a human's. While laws exist to prevent abuse, I think the overall message is overshadowed by people's adopted compassion.

But what kind of compassion is that? What did the artist do? He moved the dog from one deathbed to another. He neglected an animal that he wasn't ever responsible for. We do that all the time in this country with people. So, I guess the message is more important than the dog's life. It works, I got it. But if I hadn't thought about this much longer, it wouldn't have been successful at all, because until writing this, the story just reminded me of facebook.

Hello, I stumbled across your journal, but the Habacuc thing caught my attention, especially since I have gotten about 8 requests to join that group, and the rest of my friends are joining in throngs.

Despite my own feelings on the issue (which are somewhat equivalent to yours, and I'm a vegetarian, so I think I'm definitely going to hell for that), have you read any articles about the exhibition? The museum director is quoted as saying the dog was only tied up for about three hours total, was allowed to roam free, and the artist came in to feed the dog. According to her, the dog escaped. Habacuc won't confirm or deny it, so I'm guessing that is really what happened. Or the museum director is a bit worried about coming off as an animal hater, and it will be painfully obvious that the only reason she allowed this "show" was because Habacuc slept with her a few times.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if the dog died or not -- so there's the argument, if it didn't, would anyone really care? Probably not. Get a life, Habacuc (lols).

yeah... a few websites said that the dog escaped, and was fed regularly... but who knows.
if it was fed, then thats good for the dog and for my facebook friends.

so now i'm concerned with whether or not guillermo allowed his exhibit to create all these rumors, making it seem crazier than it really was?? or maybe guillermo just let the people who attended the gallery make their own assumptions, and all of the bad press is a result of people yapping their mouths before learning the facts.. (which is kindof what i did with this blog post, so i shouldn't be talking)

i guess my post was just a record of my feelings when i first heard about the exhibit... taking it at face value with an average attempt at research.
