Summary: Amber finally makes her decision, not that she's left with much of a choice.

She hadn’t given him an answer. The man of her dreams had said that he wanted her to be his, and she didn’t give him an answer. Even though every fiber of her being sparked with electricity when he held her hand and repeated it and how her heart practically pounded out of her chest at the words, she didn’t say a word.

Why didn’t she say anything to him?

Amber beat herself up the entire ride back to her and Jeanne’s apartment, silently. The last thing that she needed on her plate was to hear speeches on Minho’s behalf. In a way, she wanted to talk to him, but what would she say? What could she say? He’d sent a messenger to plead his case and the messenger had an agenda all his own.

...Why didn’t she say anything to him?

Besides the fact that it had been hard to breathe after his confession, her brain seemed to have lost function for a moment as well.

Well, maybe that was why she didn’t say anything to him. She couldn’t.

Of course it had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that her mind was clouded with Minho once she finally got to her room. Her phone stayed silent, surprisingly, neither one of them contacting her. She wondered if Minho and Taemin had talked about what happened. Or if one was just waiting on the other to report back with something. Taemin wouldn’t tell what he did, would he? For some reason, the thought of him saying anything about the encounter made her stomach twist uneasily.

Her bedroom door opened up and closed just as one of her notebooks connected with the wall beside it. She froze, raising a brow, relaxing only a little as Jeanne stepped into the room.

“...Is there something you want to talk about?”

Amber wrapped her arms around her knees, resting her chin on them and staring down at her bed, “No...”

The foot of the bed dipped, but she didn’t say anything still.

Jeanne sighed, “Amber, come on. Tell me what’s the matter.”

She shook her head, “It’s nothing... Don’t worry about it.”

“But you’re sulking more than you were before we left the building.”

Amber shrugged, “Just thinking too much.”

“I saw Taemin come out of the room...”

That caught her attention. She looked up and made a face, her expression a mixture of horror and despair. Now, granted that what had happened in the room wasn’t really that mortifying, but it was enough to deal with mentally. She should’ve been able to tell Taemin that she accepted. That she wanted him, and without having to second guess it. She didn’t want to have to think something like that over. She never wanted to. Apparently, she should’ve taken those messages and conversations, where she thought he was only toying with her about taking her away from his hyung, more seriously.

“What did he say?”

“Unnie, please,” the younger pleaded, hugging her knees tighter to her chest. Her head felt like it was going to explode while her heart seemed to be behaving the complete opposite - just a soft fluttering in her chest.

Amber never remembered falling asleep. She didn’t remember much after the brief conversation she had with Jeanne the night before. She sat up slowly and realized that she had no idea where she was.

“What’s going on,” she asked softly.

“You passed out on me,” a slightly irritated Jeanne replied, walking over to the side of the bed, “I don’t know whether to be sad or angry.”

Amber still wasn’t understanding what was going on, but she did finally recognize that she was in a hospital bed, hooked up only to a heart monitor and an IV drip. Her head was pounding, but it wasn’t too bad. Jeanne handed her her glasses and sat on the edge of the bed. Neither said anything for a moment, both getting their thoughts together. The older spoke first.

“That’s the most peaceful I’ve seen you in the past couple of months...” Jeanne frowned and tucked her hair behind her ear, settling her hands in her lap and clasping them together.

Her dongsaeng couldn’t get herself to smile though.

“The doctor said that you were stressed out. Thankfully, all you did was faint. They said it could’ve been something worse than unconsciousness."

Amber nodded slowly, burying her face in her hands. Jeanne slowly pulled her hands down away from her face, wiping her eyes for her.

"Can you, please, tell me what's going on?"

"I can't handle it. The boys and work... It's tiring."

"Boys? Taemin's somehow been added to this, hasn't he?"

"I guess you can say that. All he did was say he wanted me to be with him instead of Minho."

"But what about Minho?"

"We're not together. It doesnt matter though. I didn't give Minnie an answer anyway."

"Do you know what you want to do?"

Amber nodded, "I think I do... I'll just tell them neither of them can have me."

Jeanne smiled a little, "Is that what you really want?"

"No, but...until I figure it out, I'll just focus on my work..."
