((After this blah blah blippity blah.))

Helena has migrated to a bench, and is sitting in katamari position--this is to say, she is balled up and could easily be rolled. Although things would probably not stick to her.

John suddenly popping into existence is at least for the moment more comforting than it is unnerving. "Hi. Um. Sorry it's so late."

"No problem... you okay?" John moves over to the bench and sits beside her, construing the balled up posture as coldness and putting an arm around her. Even though it's August. Shut up, logic.

"Yeah, I--uh. Well. No, not really." Points for honesty? "I was just out here kind of doing nothing and--weird shit has been happening. Like it fucking...it rained out of nowhere," good, Helena, that doesn't sound batshit or anything, "...really. It did, I mean, I can tell if it's going to rain. And I think there was someone here, and I heard...stuff."

Elaboration is for pussies. Apparently. She is very grateful for the arm, though, as she demonstrates by abruptly becoming one with it.

Multitasking, John pulls Helena-his-arm closer while trying to sort out the various bits of creepy information she was attempting to communicate. Rain out of nowhere reminds him of typical mutant tactics but this obviously does not apply here. Except for if you replace "mutant" with "psychic" or whatever the equivalent would be in BPRD lingo.

"What kind of stuff?"

"Kind of. Like somebody screaming. Maybe. Or not screaming, but I don't know, it was a guy, I think. Whatever guys do." Helena's communication skills apparently atrophy into absolute rubbish when she's unnerved, so perhaps it's good that her life hasn't so far afforded her many chances to be unnerved.

"I can't even say like, 'foul play' with a straight face, 'cause television. But I don't know, I should have--I should have gone to find out." This is what her mother would have done, although Helena doesn't say this, because the last thing she wants to bring up right now is Liz.

"No, I'm pretty sure not going to investigate what sounds like a beating is a reasonable course of action." John is, however, not adverse to Helena calling him and both of them then investigating what sounds like a beating, because he is triggerhappy like that. He neglects to mention this.

"C'mon, let's head to my house for a while." He doesn't feel like they're being watched, but he's never had any particularly sensitivity for that, and in any case, Helena would probably greatly prefer the change of scenery.
