On Myspace, there's a "before-after" advertisement for some makeup company. In the before picture, it shows a young woman's face and highlights such unsightly blemishes as "acne," "roseacea," and "dark circles" about the eyes. Agree.
I like the second face but just as a picture to look. But the first one has personality. It's apprehended as a person not as a picture. The girl has thoughts, problems, history, feelings...

I really like this post. On the left she looks like a snapshot in the middle of an evolution, the progress of growing up which is what makes youth exciting. On the right she looks....embalmed.

I don't really like how much of my inner debate in life, conscious and subconscious, centers on advertising instead of substantial art. Thanks, world. =-)

"Substantial" art has rarely made it to the masses. It's only natural for us to analyze what is put in front of us every single day of our lives (as in this case, this advertisement).
