Ok. I love this idea most of all and fantasized about it ever since I learned that Roy had killed the Rockbells. You do it brilliant justice. I still must nitpick

Okay, I'm going in reverse order, so my comments are going in that order too. Sorry! ^^;;

Again, Fate is the key in understanding 'Variations'. Roy was not fated to guide Fullmetal, and there isn't going to be a Fullmetal to distract him. I sincerely believe that Ed's presence helped Roy to get over his past and DEAL. And seeing Ed strive for something helped Roy subconciously set a standard of ambition for himself. He wouldn't have tried to damn hard if Ed hadn't set that example. Make sense?

As for why he went to Winry, well. If one of his future ways of coping is gone, then he finds a new one. :D
