Ever since they were born, Lee Jinki and Kim Kibum had always been together. Both of them came from two highly respected families in South Korea. It was only natural for them to become best friends. And it certainly wasn’t surprising either that when they both turned 18, Jinki a little older, their relationship grew into something more complicated than friendship. Simply said, they fell in love.
Growing up, Jinki and Kibum realized just how up tight their parents were. They weren’t allowed to socialize with people without their parents’ approval, and everywhere they went they always had bodyguards following them, as if it wasn’t annoying enough, they report every single thing they were doing and every single topic they talked about to their parents. In no time, they started to resent being rich.
When they were 12, they made up secret nicknames to call each other so their nannies and bodyguards wouldn’t know what they were talking about. Kibum called Jinki, Onew and Jinki called him Key. They’d like to think that Onew and Key were a better version of themselves. The ones that was free from the rules of their parents and those embarrassing bodyguards. Onew and Key were just two people living their lives the way they pleased.

It was their one-year anniversary and the snow had just started to fall, giving them an excuse to walk hand in hand.
“Snow is so boring!” Kibum exclaimed as they walked around Jinki’s backyard. The older only chucked at his words, silently admiring his childishness. “Jinki, change it!”
“How?”
“I don’t know! I just think that plain white is too boring. Why can’t snow have colors like rainbows? Wouldn’t it be pretty?” Kibum smiled, imagining rainbow colored snow decorating his windowsill. “Or! Or instead of ice, imagine how awesome it would be if snows were made of powder sugar! I can do this all day!” He then started twirling around and stuck his tongue out, caching some of the falling snow on his tongue. Seeing this, Jinki couldn’t help but to smile at his boyfriend’s adorable act. After making sure that no one was watching, he stepped closer and crashed their lips together, tasting the melting snow on Kibum’s tongue.
“Hmm, what do you know? It’s already snowing sugar!” Jinki whispered as he continued licking Kibum’s lips. The younger’s ears quickly turned read and he could only laugh. “Onew loves Key so much!”
“Onew will never leave Key?”
“Never ever! Besides, we’re going to get married once we’re older right?”
“Right!”

His seemingly perfect world crumbled on that last night of the year. As usual, his parents decided to throw a New Year’s Eve Ball and of course the Kim family was invited.
“Kibum isn’t coming, dear.” Mr. Kim said once he caught Jinki’s eyes scanning the room for the brown haired boy. “He gave you this though.” Jinki’s heartbeat quicken once he held the small white enveloped on his hand.
There were only six words written on the paper.
Jinki,
It’s over. I’m leaving.
Kibum.
And no one understood why Jinki trashed his room and fell asleep crying that night.

He tried, oh he really tried to talk to Kibum. He came to his house everyday and demanded to see Kibum. He couldn’t careless if he came off as desperate. But he always got the same answer: Young Master had left. And then Jinki would storm out in anger.
He didn’t give up though. Once, he even placed a jar of powder sugar on Kibum’s doorstep along with a note saying: Here’s your snow. Comeback. He hoped that when Kibum see this he would realize just how much they love each other.
Days turned into weeks and no matter how hard Jinki looked, he never found Kibum, not even a glance of his back. He tried asking his parents. Both of them only shrugged and said with strong voices: Move on, Jinki. Jinki wouldn’t have any of that though, he still believed that Kibum loved him. The soft whispers he heard at night made that clear.
Both Jinki’s and Kibum’s parents were concerned about Jinki’s condition. But they figured it was for the best. (Two heirs of the biggest companies in South Korea to go their separate ways and not ruin their family’s reputation by being together.) Yes, it was for the best, their parents concluded.

Meanwhile, Jinki was trying hard to get his act together. But he found himself sleeping more often than he did other things. The simple reason being: wanting to meet and be together with Kibum. Because currently, dreams are the only place he can see his other half. He despised alarm clocks since then.
If he wasn’t sleeping, he would be still off on the street (of course with the memory of Kibum in his mind) driving around without so much as a destination just to see if he could get a glimpse of Kibum, or somewhat of a clue that can lead him to where the younger boy were. The fact that Kibum left without any explanation left him thinking about what might’ve gone wrong.
After a long day of yet another disappointing drive around the city he made his way to his car. He sighed when he saw a piece of paper stuck on his wiper blades. He almost crumpled the paper and threw it away when the pink words caught his attention.
Onew I miss you. Love key.
It made him smile the most sincere smile he had given since the day Kibum left. He now knew that Kibum still loved him, he missed him, and maybe he was making his way back to him. It gave him a million new reasons to keep looking for his love and a brand new strength filled up his whole system. He’s holding on to that hope and he won’t quit anytime soon. For now, it was enough.

Edit: ohkaaayy, to save you from confusion, kibum didn't really break up with jinki~ it was all their parents idea because they found out jinki & kibum's relationship and decided to break the boys up because if it's ever go out, their family's reputation would be ruined. So Kibum's parents took him away so that he wouldn't meet jinki and Jinki's parents let their son believed that kibum didn't love him anymore. Cruel, I know hehehe.
