Old Habits Are Hard To Break

Jul 08, 2009 11:34

I thought I had successfully managed to break my habit of only reading mysteries or romances, but when I look at the books I've read so far this year...yeah, mysteries and romances. :(

SO! Tell me, dear LJ friends, what should I read instead?

John Adams by David McCullough. Cannot stress enough of entertaining he made it.

I read it and it was AMAZING! Although I actually think the HBO miniseries was better, strictly because it glossed over the slower parts.

Sci-Fi: Spin - Robert Charles Wilson
Non-Fiction: Stiff - Mary Roach or Shake Hands With the Devil - Romeo Delaire
Short Fiction: Specimen Days - Michael Cunningham
Regular Fiction: Divisadero - Michael Ondaatje

Ok, so this list is a little on the Canadian Lit side but hey I'll admit, I'm biased:)

I read it and yes, it was great! Macabre, but great.

I've got Sarah's Key in queue at the library (I'm like #127 or something). I read and liked Friday Night Knitting Club. I've never heard of the Monsters of Templeton - I'll have to check it out!

Oh I just remembered World War Z by Max Brooks if you like something funny, different, apocalyptic and about zombies...

I'm also waiting to get Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance - Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem! by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith from the library.

I've never read a zombie story before, so I'll have to pick World War Z up. Thanks! bzoppa loved P&P&Zombies. I think I want to reread P&P(sans Zombies) again first, just to fresh up and so I can enjoy it more.

More to add to my Goodreads list...I love it!

I didn't think I'd like a book on zombies either, but my friend couldn't shut up about World War Z and lent it to me. The author does a great job writing about zombies as if it were another epidemic like SARS or swine flu. Very cool.

Cool! I'll make sure to pick it up. :) I'm going on a cruise at the end of the month, and I need lots of good reads for it. ;)
