Hey guys!
First, I have a quick question. I want to get a house fly on my wrist. I want it to look as realistic as possible (ideally as though it were sitting on my wrist) BUT I also want it to be about the size of a real fly. So, my question is, how detailed do you think I can get with such a small tattoo? I plan on getting it with just black ink ( Read more... )

funny you should ask, i have a friend who was in the exact same predicament as you. he ended up getting three flies that are each about the size of a quarter and they are gorgeous. you're noy going to be able to go much smaller than that.

also, he got some blues and greens for an iridescent effect that ended up working really well. i think there's some red and orange in the eyes/wings too- all very subtle.

there's an artist somewhere, i forget his name, that can do a portrait of the mona lisa the size of a quarter. tiny detailed work is definitely do-able, but really not in your best interest in the long run. over time, the ink spreads. if there's a lot of detail in a small space, when the ink spreads it's going to look like a blob in a few years. i'd either make it a decent size or loose some detail.

If you want a tattoo that small and detailed (and that won't become a blob) go to the artist _domination is talking about: Anil Gupta (NYC). He is who has done my tattoos. I have one of his miniatures, it has been years and it looks just as fresh and smear/blob free as the day I got it.

hi, I just joined this community and was going through the entries when I found this comment. I just researched Anil Gupta a bit and his work is really impressive and his shop is nearby, could you possibly post your tattoo/say a bit about your experience? I'd really love to know.
