mary blair shoulder

Last Friday I had my Mary Blair-style bird shoulder finished by the completely superlative-inducing Amy at Chapel Tattoo in Melbourne. I had the outline done a month or so ago, and while a few people told me they loved the outline alone, I am beyond happy with my tattoo coloured in. The whole thing was a great experience, because Amy is so friendly, talented and happy to listen to what I wanted, but offered suggestions that made this so much better than I had ever expected. I'm pleased, can you tell?

It's based on illustrations from the Little Golden Book "I Can Fly!" Which, it turns out, was a book my boyfriend loved when he was a kid, so we're all happy. (I just think her pictures are the best.)

Pre-colouring in. When it was super puffy at the start, some customers thought I had embroidered it into my arm. Having had a couple of surgery stitches, that sounds even more painful than what actually did happen.

While it wasn't my original plan, this may now be the start of a sleeve.
