Army insignia. I don't know if it was this community or a different one but I saw someone got First sgt stripes in honor of their dad (I believe). I just want to know if anyone else has some stripes, army, navy or whatever, please post!

My husband is a retired Staff Sgt and I want to get the stripes but I am not sure how I want to execute them. So ( Read more... )

Why not get them where they are on his uniforms? My mom is a retired master sgt for the Air Force, so her's were on the sleeves of her BDUs and Blues. I think Army is on their shoulders, or a patch on their chests? I don't know. But if you are tattoo free, why not put it in the right place? If you don't like that idea, I think inner forearm would be a neat no-hassle place.

I like the suggestion but I do have placement in mind. My husband has my name (he is gutsier than me!) and I got to pick the placement, so I told him he could pick the placement of my tattoo for him. Otherwise I had a similar idea as you do.

I like the first commenters suggestions of placement.

A word of advice though, people will assume that you're the one in the military. The stripes are seen as earned, so people (asshole people) might give you flack for it.

I'm an AF wife (going on 15 years now), so I've seen a lot of reactions to spouses with military tattoos. I've always wanted to get something to pay tribute to my role as AF spouse, but I've never narrowed down an idea.

If you get the stripes, you could always have "wife" inscribed below them or sort of offset across the bottom catty-corner like.

I'm not a AF/Military wife but I think it's fair that a military wife should be allowed to get some sort of symbol at least of what they sacrificed. Maybe someone should create a insignia just for military wives?

That would be interesting to see what someone would come up with.

Oh, I absolutely agree. I just know that actual "stripes" are often seen as disrespectful if you're not actually in service. Trust me, though, I know all too well the sacrifices we wives/families make (as my husband is about to leave for yet another summer and we're about to embark on our 3rd move in 2 years).

The only insignia I've ever seen are simple logos with "wife" attached to the end. I have a few "Proud Air Force Wife" items that do have the AF stripe emblem, but they all have "wife" attached. And I think that's totally appropriate.

I have literally had the SAME exact idea as you, down to the rank. My dad was a career NCO in the Army and at the time of his death, he was an E-6.
I decided against this particular design because I realized that I would be sick to death of explaining why as the wife of an E-5 and why as a Reservist in my own right, I had a higher rank tattooed on me.

The design I had worked out in my head was a small SSG rank in grey scale, with my dad's initials in black on the bottom rocker. I was also going to put it on the back of my calf, so it would not show up in anything other than my Summer PT uniform.

Same rank and everything, ironic! That is a really neat idea with the initials. I am trying to decide if I want to get some sort of writing around it, initials or something else.

Luckily the spot my hubby picked out is on my back, so not too many people will be seeing it, which makes me not worry too much about having to explain it. Hopefully people will find it funny the way I do if I am enlisted or an officer with stripes, lol.

I'm no help at all, I just wanna say that there is nothing hotter than an Army man in his BDU's. Good luck!

BDU's were sexy as hell. Too bad they changed it to the ACU, which looks like crap. BOO :(
