change is in the air,
leaves are falling to the ground -
you'd think it's autumn
except that it's too darn hot
the rain doesn't help either...

 
dreary afternoon,
i took the early train home.
i have been trying
all evening to compose a
suitable tanka - no luck!

through the dark and rain,
over wet leaves, new-fallen
in transient streams;
more than half asleep, I race
toward dawn, and maybe coffee

one reign over, one begun
memories abound
time with friends was all too brief
but will be well remembered

words elude my grasp
can it possibly be, I'm

hard to believe, we're
married thirty years today.
doesn't seem that long...
you'd think we'd be old by now
or at least somewhat older.

but seeing your smile,
the years fall away for me.
you are as lovely
as the first time I saw you
- more than thirty years ago.

here's to thirty more
at least, and whatever comes,
