I feel vaguely guilty. I just called in and told the library that I couldn't make it in today. I did tell them I'd come in tomorrow instead. I'm not sure what else I could have done. I thought it was supposed to be less than one inch of snow! It's snowing fairly heavily (An Ohio native would probably say something different) and I've never ( Read more... )

First you turn your car heater to defrost on full blast. Otherwise it fogs up inside, which is counterintuitive when it's this cold but there you go.

If you're driving in active snow, you keep your eyes low on the road instead of on the hypnotic swirly white stuff. Watch the white and yellow lines, and the signs and lights if you're driving in-city. It's like driving at night on country roads, only in different colors. If it's snowed enough to cover the road-lines, then it's harder, and that's when an inexperienced snow-driver should definitely stay home.

And go as slow as you need to and don't let the idiots who think they can go faster spook you into speeding up. They can just suck your exhaust.
