[Hanekawa was too absorbed in everything going around that she didn't really pay attention to the phones. Her 'father' was under the threat of a strange person, people were going insane over getting boxtops and she was starting to feel a pulse of headaches overwhelming her.
But this was probably just some sort of twisted game. Just like the time Mayfield became a communist nation. It sounds silly, but having her things back would make her feel more comfortable. So if it was a twisted thing that would go away, what would be the harm in trying to get some things back? After what happened in early July people had some things returned as well.
