Scrolling all the way to the right to read entries is really shit.

Sounds like something on your friends' list is too wide. YOu might try setting up custom friends lists to weed it out, or set your friends page to 15 or 20 entries to get it off faster. Good luck; with me, that's usually the Astronomy Picture of the Day.
