California is overrated!

What is everyone's fascination with California. I really do not understand why people think the living is somehow easier or better out here. Just got off the phone with a lady in Detroit and she could not believe I wanted to return to Michigan. No matter where I live I do the same stuff so for the most part it really does'nt matter. just today i read an article that 1 in 4 californians consider moving due to outrageous rent and real estate prices. yes, i guess it's a wonderful place if you can see the pacific ocean from your bedroom and i'm sure the weather is nice, but just like you, the things that i do, i can do in any city. as long as it has book- and record stores and a place to have a nice cup of coffee or food, i'm set.
