Poll Holiday Poll

This question has been very interesting to me ever since I thoroughly examined my beliefs a while back. I'm curious what others feel. It would be more constructive if I had more Christian friends here, but I'll take what I can get.

I don't know if it makes sense for me to vote in this poll. Or if I do, whether I should approach it somewhat academically and try to think in terms of the meaning of the two days from the perspective of believers, or just respond based on my own personal experiences of observing holidays as a matter of tradition rather than faith.

All I know about Good Friday is that my birthday occasionally falls on it, and that it's a popular day for staging Passion Plays which often lead to pogroms against Jws in Middle Ages Europe. *grin*

I think they're part of the same holiday. Without one, the other one would be pointless. Jesus' death took away our sins, but his resurrection is what defeated death. Together they made eternal life possible. Without Good Friday there would be no Easter, and without Easter, Good Friday would have been the end of Christianity as we know it.

Agreed. That's pretty perfectly put.

Also, I think that Saturday is an integral part of the experience, although it's one that's not as significantly dwelt upon. A couple of years ago, I really spent Easter meditating on what the Saturday meant, in terms of the "living between the cross and the empty tomb," what that meant for Jesus' followers, who didn't understand what was just around the corner, and what it means for us, living in between Jesus' first and second comings.

I think that the weekend as a whole is one entity, but our understanding is so much richer when we take time to understand each part individually.
