It Is Time

The surprisingly long process of rereading the first six Harry Potter books is done. Finally, it is time to read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Of course, I'm very anxious to get on with the last book, so I won't waste much time now.

All in all, I'm happy with my decision to go ahead with the reread.  In particular, revisiting Half-Blood ( Read more... )

Yay!

Although, now I'm realizing I probably won't be around to discuss it with you as soon as you finish if you read it in the next couple of weeks. Bummer.

In particular, revisiting Half-Blood Prince was particularly enlightening. ... As a result, this was almost like reading it again for the first time. I am even now amused with the fact that the book that I remembered with the least detail was the book that I had read most recently (by multiple years).
I felt the same way. I remembered so little of that book. And honestly, my feelings about it just grew more and more negative over time, so rereading (well, listening to) it largely helped to remind me of the things I'd actually liked about it (because I remembered quite well the major things I'd disliked), so it was a pretty positive experience for me.

Snape being the true identity of the half-blood Prince was one of the few details that I (obviously) remembered, and I must say that I definitely enjoyed the bit ( ... )

Why? Are you going somewhere? I feel so out of touch.

And I'd like to respond to a couple of other things, but I worry that even if I did it without mentioning any spoilers I might end up accidentally giving hints just based on my tone, so I'm going to stop here.

Certainly, I almost disabled comments for that very reason.

I leave for MN Wednesday morning. I'll be gone for anywhere between one and two weeks (I have a return flight from MN a week later, but might drive out to Seattle with my aunt and fly from there). I won't be totally out of touch, but my online time will be much more limited. Especially during the days that I'm camping. :)

Certainly, I almost disabled comments for that very reason.
It's definitely easy to give something away without meaning to. Apparently I'm quite good at avoiding it, though, because I went to see OotP (for the second time) the day after reading Deathly Hallows and went with an HP fan who hadn't had a chance to read DH yet. We spent hours discussing HP, and the next day (after she'd read DH) she e-mailed me telling me how impressed she was that we'd discussed so many characters and topics in detail and I'd managed not to give anything away.

In particular, revisiting Half-Blood Prince was particularly enlightening. It's startling exactly how little of that book was actually at my recall. Snape's final actions left such a deep impression that they swallowed up virtually every other detail that I may have otherwise remembered. As a result, this was almost like reading it again for the first time. I am even now amused with the fact that the book that I remembered with the least detail was the book that I had read most recently (by multiple years).
Dude, the same thing happened to me when I read the summaries to catch up. It's like I remembered NOTHING but Snape kills Dumbledore, page 606.
