On saturday the 14th, I should be competing in my first college level meet. I am excited because it means that I am actually good at sports. Yay!

Is track a sport? I think of it more as an event. "Sport" implies actively working in a team to score goals, and stuff. Not individual events.

You could say you're good at athletics.

I think track is a sport because it has an objective scoring system: run the fastest, jump the highest or farthest, or throw the farthest and you win.

Things like figure skating, diving, cheerleading, and dance team aren't sports because they rely on a subjective scoring system: judges decide the scores, and therefore there can be big controversies about who should have won. That sort of thing shouldn't happen in sports, because if they should have won, they would have.

Or something.

Summarization: Track is a sport! Figure skating, diving, cheerleading, and dance team are not.
