I saw The Island tonight. It was pretty decent. Except for the major plot holes, but I'll just forget those ever existed ( Read more... )

I see what you mean about the lack of creativity in the entertainment world, but I must take up for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, because I thoroughly enjoy how Tim Burton takes things as they were and then gives them a new breath without making it seem effortless and repetitive. You can tell he works really hard to make an entirely new and interesting version, unlike some directors (case in point: the Psycho disaster back in the 90s where Gus van Sant copied the original frame by frame), so I think he succeeds with projects like this without seeming too much like a boring copy-cat. Anyhow, that's my 2 cents. =)

I see were your coming from but i have to say that i believe that all the really good ideas have been used up and alls there trying to do in the entertainment buisness is put new spins on good ideas and trying to improve upon bad ideas

How can all of the good ideas be "used up"?

The whole purpose of imagination and creativity is to be inventive and original.

That's easy to explain take the simpsons for example, all the older seasons the shows were hilarious now there just crap, because the ran out of good ideas now the episodes their writing are just crap

I'm not saying everything has to be good. Because there is no reason to expect that. It should just be new was the whole point of this.

I'll only start to get worried when authours start to cover each others books. When Stephen King publishes his version of Brave New World, I'll be scared. And not the way Stephen King tries to scare people.

I think it's the new trend now. Take a look at the automotive industry?
Ford Thunderbird
Dodge Charger
Mini Cooper
Ford Mustang

Retro is the "in" thing now, it seems. Not that it's all been bad, but a lot of it sure as heck hasn't been good.

And I haven't been to Newcastle recently, so I can't say.

There's a difference between retro and blatent lack of new ideas... Cars are around for decades at a time. Movies last in the lime light for a few months at best.
