monday on a thursday

It's the first day back to work after vacation and the City greets me like a sullen something that smells of urine. Several new erector sets of scaffolding have gone up in my absence, forcing me to adjust my habitual route slightly. The Scientists in charge have changed the maze. It is possible they have also moved the cheese

I found it once, but it was in no fit condition for eating.

What kind of cheese was it, other than rotten?

Some kind of gouda, perhaps? Or possibly genetically enhanced swiss. It had teeth. It may not have been cheese at all. It could have been a raccoon. It was that kind of day.

I understand. Coming back into the office on Tuesday was a shock to my system as well, for a variety of reasons. The something missing, I believe, is the freedom to live away from the maze ...and it is vital to our survival.

Or your socks might not match. That would do it too.
