The Torchwood Rumor Mill

So...

I read a rumor about Torchwood Season 3 casting. No, not the news that has been around for a while.

Well, there are these rumors here, one of which doesn't even make sense at this point. Apparently the adult tone of Torchwood is going to be softened because they're going to run it in the Doctor Who slot during the hiatus season (though, honestly, if that's what they're planning, then the casting rumor that doesn't make sense ... actually makes somewhat more sense; unfortunately, they haven't balanced the show in a way that will allow that to work very well) The BBC has also apparently only commissioned five episodes of Torchwood for season 3 to date

It also includes rumors regarding the end of the current season of Doctor Who which ... well, it would be both sincerely fanfictional, but also give a lot deeper characterization to some of the characters. (One hopes.)

I suppose they could do a certain amount of science-wankery regarding Owen -- interaction of energy types, unexpected results, etc.

Oh yes, I remember reading this set of rumors, which supported the rumors of Owen and Tosh's deaths. I haven't been watching the pre-watershed versions of Torchwood, but even with the cleaned up version, there are some episodes in both seasons that I just can't see toned down for an audience that fits the much earlier Doctor Who timeslot (I'm thinking of "Sleeper" which was quite violent as an example) unless they are going to go for a radically different tone.

In fact, I'd venture to say that if they tone down Torchwood so that it fits into the Who timeslot, I would seriously no longer call it Torchwood. And when Who does come back, do they expect to make it more adult in tone again? *mind boggling* I mean... doesn't that sound like a not-too-bright idea to anyone else? You'll lose a lot of the older audiences that don't like the format change, you'll not gain a younger audience, as the first two seasons of the show might not be available to them for one reason or another. It's just... a bad idea all around ( ... )

That article is completely incorrect about the filming of the 2009 Christmas special ... they've just started filming the 2008 Christmas special, and won't even get around to filming the 2009 episodes until after DT's RSC commitments are over in December or January.

All the rest of the rumors there, including the one about Robert Carlyle, are ones I've heard before. Certainly the bit about the guest cast members for the DW finale is true.
