IT doesn't actually say how the money comes in to this. You have people pay to dance in order to get a chance at being in the right position to win the pie? There are a number of ECD dances in a circle for "as many as will" so you could have many people buying in to the circle of dancers (which will end up with some dancers not getting pies, but this is no different than a raffle). the problem might be where to put the numbers if you have a circle of indeterminate size, or a shrinking size as you indicate above. Perhaps instead of numbers on the floor, have the royalty (or whoever) walking in the opposite direction of the circle and whoever is closest to them (or the drawn number of positions away from them which would improve randomization) when the music stops

Sounds like a fun idea, I can think of some dances that might be a better fit to this sort of game than ECD . For example, Chirantana (my spelling may be crap), which already has a somewhat random musicians decide the length aspect, which could work well for a pie award. there are other dances such as Le Bens which lend themselves to dancers travelling all over the room, or for circle dances, one of the bransles could fit well.

Sounds like a fun idea, I can think of some dances that might be a better fit to this sort of game than ECD .
For example, Chirantana (my spelling may be crap), which already has a somewhat random musicians decide the length aspect, which could work well for a pie award.
