This post is as much for my own reference as anything else.

I'm a big fan of very thin soles. i like to feel the surface on which i walk. I, too, have wide (EEE-EEEE) feet.

I've never tried the Five Fingers type (I really should). I've had a lot of success with the minimalist (with names like vapor and glove) and almost minimalist running shoes.

Strangely, I've also quite liked some of the really cheap water shoes. i don't think that I've ever paid more then twenty dollars for a pair and I've even found some at dollar stores.

The best toe-box that i can remember was a pair of Nike Huarache running shoes from circa 1993. They were big, padded-soled things, though. They had a sort of roll-bar under the ball of the foot, such that the toes were almost unconstrained unless the wearer applied pressure. They had laces but no tongue. Instead, there was a sort of stretchy, sock-like thingummy that was built into the shoe. I have no idea about the current design. As near as i can tell, they are not on offer in Canada, anymore.
