I just read this article: The Privilage of Assuming It's Not About YouI've been soothed with the refrain "it's not because you're fat", and then a perfectly reasonable explaination for the thing that I'm wondering about

Well, doesn't that bring back some fond memories from middle school. I'm lucky: it's pretty much a thing of the past for me now, and over the decades, my brain is figuring that out.

Sadly, that's not so for you, or a number of other folks I know.
