Say what?

From the latest update from the Stupid Software Company (tm):

"... Starting the Web Server requires a connection to an X11 server. If it is the console, the X11 window on the console must stay open or the Web Server will stop."

Say WHAT?

Have you tried translating it into Russian? Maybe it makes more sense that way.

Scary thing is, it does. :p

Oh, not in the literal sense. But I happen to know that the Small Software Company that wrote this particular piece of cruft was entirely made up of Russian expatriates, before it was swallowed whole by the Big Software company that currently sells the aforementioned piece of cruft. So... I recognize the mindset for the above requirement. It's the "It's easier to do it this way" mindset. It's the "who cares" mindset. It's the "we get paid either way" mindset.

Agh. There are times I severely dislike my former countrymen.

(Explanation for those not computer-savvy: the requirement for the X11 console is because apparently their web server is written in Java and they need the X11 window for the Java console, being too lazy or incompetent or *something* to suppress the console.)

That's right up there with the most ambiguous product warning of all time:

"Do not use for the other use."

Sheesh.
