where and how do I 'set to screen'.. i can figure out everything else.. I think.. but this set to screen that everyone uses.. I have no idea what it means.. can you help!?
oh yeah, no problem! :) I remember when I figured this out, I was so glad. Before that, I had no clue what everyone was talking about, and it always frustrated me. Here's what you do:
We're changing the 'mode' of a layer. Make sure you've got the layer you want to change selected; go to the 'Mode' drop down menu in your 'layers' dialog (if you don't usually use this dialog, I highly recommend it :). to open: Dialogs>Layers), then all you do is select 'Screen', or 'Soft Light', or whatever! :)
This is such an awesome tool - I almost always start out an icon by duplicating the base, set to screen, then dup. again - set to soft light, maybe another screen, maybe a 'multiply', etc etc. And there are a lot of things you can do with color layers set to different modes!
Sorry if this explanation is really rudimentary! I don't know how much info you wanted, so I went pretty basic.
Does it make sense? Can I make it clearer?
here are some tutorials that really helped me (especially check out that first one, it's awesome): Tutorial 1
